MILANI TOTAL LASH COVER MASCARA REVIEW

I go through mascaras like crazy, and try to get a new one every two months just so I'm sure that I'm not using a mascara that's possibly a little past its life. I spotted this Milani mascara in TKMaxx for an inexpensive £3.99, so I couldn't pass it up. It wasn't just the price that got me, but more the crazy looking applicator brush. As cool as the brush looks, does it live up to how cool it looks? Unfortunately not as much as I thought. It's an okay mascara with both it's hits and misses, but for £3.99 it's a pretty decent mascara.

Firstly, let's see what the mascara claims, and then I'll break it down into the pros and cons. The brush is divided into three sections, the green defines, the white builds the lashes and the purple separates and combs the lashes. It also claims to be non-clumping, long lasting and comfortable. And here is the quick breakdown of what I thought.

HITS

- The purple part of the brush separates the lashes beautifully and fans them out.

- It doesn't flake! One thing I hate about some mascaras is looking into a mirror during the day and seeing bits of mascara over my cheeks. This doesn't do that, which is great!

- It's comfy. Like it suggests, I can hadly feel it on my lashes, which is great for days I don't want to wear much makeup.

- It looks lovely on my bottom lashes.

- The packing is big and sturdy, which I like.

MISSES

- I'm not a fan of the white/purple part of the brush. If it wasn't for the purple comb part this wasn't grab my lashes as I like a mascara to grab.

- It doesn't hold a curl like I would like it to. It's not terrible as there's still some life to the lashes, but they did flop throughout wear.

- The applicator is very fiddly. You need to brush over the whole lash then turn it around for the purple part to comb your lashes through. A bit of a hassle.

- It's time consuming. Because of the faff you have to do with the application, it's not for girls on the go.

Overall, it's an okay mascara. I won't be jumping to grab another one when this runs out, in fact I'm probably just going to use this on my bottom lashes. I need a mascara that holds a curl as I love curly lashes, and if it doesn't do that, I'm not going to be a huge fan. The '3 zone' applicator is a bit gimmicky and there's plenty on the market that are far better for a little bit more money. For £3.99 it's not a terrible mascara, and I've tried worse that are twice as expensive, so I'm not totally bummed out.

SLEEK SOLSTICE HIGHLIGHTING PALETTE

Look at that packaging. Look at it. I've had this palette for a while now but kept forgetting to right up my review. I picked this up from Superdrug because it looked gorgeous, unaware of the hype this highlighting palette has gotten. I love Sleek, and it's one of my high street favourites, I've already done a review for a Barekissed Illuminator here and an eye and cheek palette here, both which are beautiful. I love that this Solstice Highlighting palette is the same size as the eye and cheek palettes, I love consistency in a brand, makes me feel like I need to collect them all!

Not only is the packaging beautiful, but so is the product. There are four shades inside as well as a brush which I don't usually use, but it's a nice bonus. The first shade, Ecliptic is a bronze shimmery cream and the one over is Hemisphere, a gorgeous luminous pink/purple. Below these two we then have Subsolar, a golden shade and then Equinox, which has the exact formula as Hemisphere, just more of a campaign/bronze colour.

When I took this to Centre Parcs with me back in June, I took this with me for on the go glow. Surprisingly, Ecliptic made a beautiful eye shadow primer with a little bit of Equinox on top. It didn't crease on me throughout the night, and it looked beautiful. I'm yet to use it as a highlight as I tend to step away from cream products over my foundation. Hemisphere and Equinox are both uber shimmery, and give very subtle colour. These are both buildable highlighters, so you can have your glow as subtle or as eye catching as you see fit. Subsolar is a beautiful, beautiful shade and looks gorgeous aon my pale skin. It has more of a subtle glow compared to the other two powders, but again it's buildable. I usually use Equinox on my cheek bone and brow bone, and then Subsolar on my cupids bow and my nose.

Overall, this is totally worth the price tag. It's beautiful. The highlighters in this are all buttery, creamy, and can all be soft and shimmer or gold and bright. If you didn't buy it because you weren't sure if it was worth the hype - It really is. This will no doubt appear in my future makeup looks so you'll see it in action very soon! There's another highlighting palette from Sleek called Cleo's Kiss if you're into more of a gold shimmer. I'm eyeing up the Midas Touch highlighting palette, so maybe that'll be on the blog soon, too...

BOBBI BROWN SHEER COLOR LIP GLOSS IN ALMOST NUDE - REVIEW AND SWATCH

I've not tried anything from Bobbi Brown that I haven't loved, and this is no exception. First off, this is a lip gloss. Usually me and lip glosses aren't friends, but this has changed my opinion on the dreaded lip gloss. I feel most people either love a gloss or hate a gloss, and there's no dabbling in between. However, if you're someone that disliked lip gloss like me, this could be a great place to start.

Their Sheer Color Lip Gloss is exactly as it suggests, it's sheer. What I love about this particular shade is that you can layer it over lipstick without altering the colour, or popping a little bit in the centre of the lips to get a fuller look. But it wasn't the subtle hue of nude that made me fall in love with this gloss, it's the formula. There's nothing I hate more than sticky gloss and hair getting caught in my lips, and this doesn't do any of those things. The gloss is so silky it's unreal. It lasts longer than your average lip gloss too, as I noticed I applied it in the morning and by my lunch break it still had a glossy, hydrating finish. The gloss isn't thick and once it's on I forget it's there.

The applicator is pretty standard. There's nothing outstanding about it, but the doe foot is soft and sturdy which means for a mess-free application. I actually like that the doe foot is the same width as the rest of the applicator, it looks sleek! 

Now whenever I need a lip gloss instead of a lipstick to finish off my makeup, this is the one I reach for. It is a little on the pricey side, but it is by far one of the best lip glosses I've used. The sheer colour means you can wear it alone or team it up with a lip stain or lipstick. In my opinion, it's the perfect lip gloss.
